I didn’t understand the nuances of memory until I did a deep dive into the research for my upcoming book, Everything Changes Everything. I wanted to better understand my own memories of my long marriage as I processed my husband’s death. We humans actually have an evolutionary bias to remember “bad” things (so as not to repeat, I guess, so we stay alive). But we also get nice biochemical “hits” from remembering good things. A nice balance, I think.
